Road Cycling and Cyclocross Use
When building a wheel make sure you take the wheels to a qualified builder who can build a set of wheels that will support your weight and be safe for you to ride.  The FLO 30 Rim can be used for cyclocross but you must ensure the rims are built properly for cyclocross use.

Sticker Colors
Everyone has a favorite color.  Just like the rest of our FLO wheels, you will be able to pick from 18 color options.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Take care,

Jon

Hi,
How do you know how many holes to choose between 20, 24, 28 or 32?

Drew Eckhardt said...

That's super awsome.

Will there be a silver (perhaps not anodized) option?

Fred Blasdel said...

Are the spoke holes drilled symmetrically?

John K. said...

Guys, will this be OK to build with a PowerTap G3?
Thanks
John

Alex,

That is a really a question for your wheel builder. It will depend on the components you use. Your weight, use etc will all be part of the equation.

I hope that helps.

Chris

Drew Eckhardt,

Right now we are only sell the black anodized version.

Fred Blasdel,

I'm not sure I understand your question. Symmetrically around the circumference of the rim? if so then yes. Are you asking if the holes are drilled like a roval wheel were holes are "clumped" in one section? If so, then no.

Take care,

Chris

John K,

Certainly. PowerTap G3 will definitely work.

Does it fit Ridley Noah Rs?

Scott Reynolds said...

Any chance this would ever be done for the 60 as well? I'd love a front 60 with a few more spokes (28)

FLO Cycling said...

Scott Reynolds,

Our 60s and 90s are both faired wheels. That means the spokes pass through the carbon fiber and connect to the aluminum rim. The location of the hole in the fairing has to be quite unique and work well with the hub flange diameter. If not, you get interference between the spokes and the fairings. This causes a buzzing sound that is not good.

For this reason, we will likely not sell 60 and 90 rims. It would be very hard to know if the rim would work properly for any customers we sold the product to.

I hope that makes sense,

Chris

Clement tan,

It's really hard for me to say. Ridley uses several forks on that frame. Sometimes our wheels fit and other times they don't. I would guess that the FLO 30 would be better off than the 60 with respect to width. However, the Ridley forks can often be too short. It's not uncommon for the tire to rub underneath the fork. You would likely be able to use a specific tire to solve that problem.

I'm sorry that I do not have a better answer for you.

Will the rims come with nipple washers?

FLO Cycling said...

JV,

The rims will not come with nipple washers. Those will be yours or the builders responsibility.

I hope that helps,

Chris

Which washers do you recommend/use now? Has any work been done to validate durability without washers?

Also, the question about spoke hole symmetry earlier was likely about left/right symmetry. Without washers I would like to know the answer to that one too.

Thanks,
JV

FLO Cycling said...

JV,

We currently use washers and recommend them since they help distribute the load. We have not done any testing without washers.

I really hesitate to recommend a specific washer since the builder will have to use the proper washers for the build.

Does that make sense?

Chris

JV understood my question correctly -- are the spoke holes center-drilled or do they alternate between L/R drilling?

If the spoke holes are not angled, 16:8 lacing is possible on the 24h rim.

FLO Cycling said...

Fred Blasdel,

Now I understand. Our drillings are alternated L/R.

Thanks for your patience.

Take care,

Chris

Hi, I just noticed that your blog post was updated to have an ERD of 577.5 but I remember it being 586mm. Can you guys confirm what the actual ERD is?

FLO Cycling said...

squidsauce,

We had some people writing in with discrepancies in ERD measurements. We did a re-measurement at our factory and posted the new value. The new 577.5mm is the correct value.
